Medical Terminology Course

Administrators within the Liverpool and Cheshire region faced critical challenges in their roles, including frequent coding mistakes, communication difficulties with patients at reception desks, struggles with medical technology, and a general sense of being ill-equipped for their job responsibilities. Additionally, the training department within Informatics Merseyside had fallen 10 months behind in developing a much-needed medical terminology course. Given these challenges and the department's backlog, I was tasked with single-handedly developing a comprehensive medical terminology course. The objective was to address the identified issues, equip administrators with essential medical knowledge, and meet the contractual obligation to deliver the course. I took immediate action by meticulously designing a full-day course that focused on key body systems and incorporated best practices from allied health training. This involved extensive research, curriculum development, and the creation of engaging educational materials. I ensured that the course was interactive and tailored to the needs of the administrators. After completing course development, I led the delivery of the program to over 100 participants. Throughout the training, I utilised innovative teaching methods to enhance comprehension and retention of medical terminology. The outcomes of this initiative were highly successful. Feedback from all participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing newfound confidence in their roles. Notably, one primary care practice conveyed their gratitude for the significant improvement in their employees' work quality post-training.
